After a TikTok compilation of Lorde shushing crowds singing along at her concerts went viral, Lorde posted a video to defend the shushing and explained her reasoning for quieting fans!
The TikTok that is going viral is a series of videos of Lorde hand-motioning to multiple audiences at multiple shows to quiet down while she performs “Writer in the Dark."
“It comes off as kinda pretentious on her part like bruh it's a concert,” wrote one person.
“I wouldn’t go to her concert for this reason hahaha,” said one user, echoing the sentiments of dozens of other comments that claimed they'd “shush back" at the singer.
But on On April 23, via the fanpage @lordecontent, Lorde shared a new video to address the viral meme and its apparent controversy.
"OK, I just woke up. I just wanted to talk about this thing of me shushing people at my shows," said Lorde. "That was something I did in that one song, a couple of times, when I wanted to sing it a capella and/or off the microphone so people could hear me and because I wanted to try something different."
“If you come to my shows, you know it's like an hour and a half of all of us singing and screaming together," Lorde continued. "Also, that dramatic ass move was literally for an album called Melodrama, so don't stress too hard."
